The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday directed the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to file a status report showing how the civic agency has implemented the directions issued by the court since 2002 for tackling the garbage problem and enforcing the Solid Waste Manage (SWM) Rules.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Jusitce H.T. Narendra Prasad issued the direction during the hearing of a batch of PIL petitions, filed since 2012 on the garbage problem, which came up for hearing after a gap of about a year.

The bench, on noticing that a series of directions were issued to the BBMP since 2012, has asked the civic body to file the status report by August 16 showing compliance of the court’s directions. The bench will hear on July 12 various interlocutory applications filed in these proceedings.
