The High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday directed the State government and Bangalore University to permit around 150 students to appear for the first semester B.Ed. exam starting on Thursday.
Justice H.G. Ramesh passed the interim order on a batch of petitions filed by Gautam College of Education and other institutions offering B.Ed. courses complaining that the government had failed to consider their applications for granting approval for the admission of candidates against the vacancies in the government-quota seats.
During the course of pendency of these petitions, the court had orally asked the authorities to pass orders on the applications filed by the colleges. Following this, the Higher Education Department recently passed the order rejecting the applications for the reason that the colleges had not taken prior permission for filling the vacancies in the government-quota seats in violation of a circular issued in 2014.
On Wednesday, the court permitted the students, admitted by the colleges against the vacancies in government-quota seats, to appear for the exam subject to final result of the petitions.
