HC notice to BBMP on ‘illegal’ wall across drain

The High Court of Karnataka on Monday ordered issue of notice to the State government and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on a public interest litigation petition, that complained that a major storm-water drain in Nagawara was blocked by illegally constructing a wall across the drain by private persons from a family running business houses.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Justice Mohammad Nawaz issued the direction during a hearing the petition filed by Samarpana, a social service organisation.

Pointing out that some of residential localities around Nagawara were getting flooded during heavy rains, as rainwater caused the drain to overflow owing to the block created by the construction of a wall illegally, the petitioner has sought a direction to remove the encroachment of the drain in several survey numbers in Nagawara, Bengaluru North, situated close to Manyata Tech Park.
