The Karnataka High Court on Monday directed the police commissioner to take a decision within 12 weeks on a representation seeking permission to visit a memorial where Mahatma Gandhiji held prayer meetings every evening during his stay in 1927.

A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice L. Narayana Swamy and Justice P.S. Dinesh Kumar passed the order while disposing of a PIL petition by Samarpana, a cultural and social service organisation. No one is allowed inside the memorial, which is now situated inside a property that has been leased to Hotel Lalit Ashok in Kumara Krupa East.
