Habitual offender arrested hours after being released on bail

A 20-year-old habitual offender, released from Bengaluru Central Prison on bail on Monday, was caught a few hours later while attempting to rob a motorcyclist.

Sridhar, 20, was chasing down a motorcyclist on his two-wheeler when he slipped from his bike and sustained injuries, after which he was arrested. He has over six cases against him. Shortly after his release, he reconnected with five of his associates and robbed two people in Chennammanakere Achukattu and Peenya of gold chains. “Then, he started targeting motorists moving towards Hanumantha Nagar. He had planned a series of robberies to finance his legal fees,” said a police source.

When the biker realised he was being targeted, he rode faster hoping to escape. Sridhar and his associates, on three bikes, gave chase and knocked him down on Hanumantha Nagar main road around 12.30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Sridhar, two of his associates, and the victim slipped and sustained injuries. Passers-by rushed to their aid and alerted the police control room. The three other accomplices escaped.

Sridhar will booked under robbery and remanded in judicial custody, the police said.
