Gym trainer who assaulted woman arrested again

A 38-year-old gym trainer, who was arrested for assaulting a woman motorist at a petrol pump on January 3, was booked again for arranging a fake surety to secure bail.

The accused, Shivakumar, a resident of J.C. Nagar, had been arrested by the police for assaulting 34-year-old Manjula at a fuel station after she called him out for damaging her two-wheeler while attempting to break a queue.

CCTV footage showed Shivakumar slapping and kicking the woman. He was arrested by the Basaveshwara Nagar police for assault, outraging the modesty of a woman and criminal intimidation. When the case came up for hearing last week, the court granted him bail and directed the jurisdictional police to complete the bail formalities.

On Friday, Shivakumar and his surety, identified as Suresh Babu, presented themselves before the police. Suresh Babu told Sub Inspector Manju H.A., who is investigating the case, that he works as a clerk in a government school, and that Shivakumar is his friend.

When Manju asked the name of the school’s headmaster, Suresh Babu was unable to give an answer.

The police then checked the documents and found that his ID card from the Education Department and the salary slip had been forged. He claimed to have forged the signature of the block education officer of Gauribidanur in return for a payment of ₹5,000 from Shivakumar.

The police arrested Shivakumar nad Suresh Babu. They have been charged for forgery and cheating. They have been remanded in judicial custody.
