Siddaraju from Nanjangud was walking head and shoulders above the rest during the Dasara procession on Friday.
Performing the Maragalu Kunitha , a folk dance performed wearing 8 to 10 feet tall wooden stilts, Mr. Siddaraju not only grabbed eyeballs, but also elicited claps and whistles from an ecstatic crowd that had gathered along the procession route.
Though Maragalu Kunitha has been part of the earlier Dasara processions, Mr. Siddaraju, an artiste from Maharshi Valimiki Nayaka Jananga Welfare Association, Thayuru, Nanjangud, captured the imagination of many people by dancing stills that were unusually tall.
Policeman turns
livid at ‘shooter’
A spectator on the Mysuru palace premises, who was taking photographs of the tableaux and cultural troupes, landed in trouble after he aimed his mobile phone camera at a policeman who was enjoying the shade behind the spectators’ gallery.
Immediately, the policeman, who was seated on a plastic chair under a tree, rushed towards him and grabbed the phone. He expressed his ire over the man taking his photograph and refused to return the mobile phone. He returned the phone after much persuasion, but forced the spectator to delete his photographs. — Special Correspondent
