More than four years after she was injured in a bomb blast at Malleswaram, Leesha N.S. has been given a government job. The decision was made by the State cabinet on Thursday.

Leesha was 17 at the time of the terror attack in April 2013.

Leesha told The Hindu that the offer came after she knocked on the doors of the High Court, which in October 2016 directed the State government to give her a job.

She is pursuing an MCA at R.V. College of Engineering and needs the help of a stick to walk around. “I was preparing to become an engineer, but my career path changed, as I was not able to do well in the Common Entrance Test after the blast,” she says.

“On that day, I had stepped out for a lunch break after tuitions... those few minutes changed my life completely. Since then, the trauma I have been through was exhausting, both physically and psychologically.”

Leesha has undergone nine surgeries and, even now, needs the help of painkillers. “I might have to undergo another surgery in a few months,” she says.

Her father, Doreswamy Raj, a battery technician, claims to have spent over ₹20 lakhs on her treatment, medicine and transportation. He says that the government had contributed ₹8 lakh towards the hospital bills.

He plans to consult his lawyer as Leesha has been offered a Group C job. “We were under the impression that she would get a Group B job,” he explained.
