Golden run ends for silver thief

For over a year, a young salesperson of a jewellery shop had been quietly spiriting away silver from his employer without anyone noticing. However, his luck ran out when someone tipped off the Central Crime Branch while he was selling one of the stolen artefacts. When the police raided the house of Yelahanka resident Ramesh Rao (24), they found 26 kg of silver articles worth Rs. 17 lakh.

An employee of Tulsi Jewellers in Ulsoorgate, he allegedly stole an item every day — idols, lamps and so on — for a year while returning from work and his employer was none the wiser. The police said this encouraged Ramesh to pocket more valuables till he was caught.

He is now in judicial custody.

Child run over

A four-year-old boy was killed on the spot when a speeding goods auto ran over him while he was playing in front of his house in Ambedkar Colony in Whitefield on Saturday.

M. Madan, son of construction worker Manjunath, was crushed under the vehicle of the auto which was loaded with mineral water bottles.

The driver fled, abandoning the vehicle, the police said.

Rider mugged

Nandini Layout resident Kumar K. (24) was robbed of his 25 gm gold chain by three men who stopped him at knifepoint at J.S. Nagar on Friday night.

Mr. Kumar, who works in the sales department in a showroom on M.G. Road, was on his way home on a motorcycle when he was accosted, the Mahalakshmi Layout police said.
