Gold, diamond jewellery worth Rs. 70 lakh stolen

Gold and diamond jewellery worth over Rs. 70 lakh was burgled from a house of a realtor in N.S. Palya, BTM Layout.

The burglary came to light when the realtor and his family returned from Mangaluru on Sunday.

MICO Layout police said M.A. Sheriff, a real estate dealer, and his family had gone to visit their relatives in Mangaluru.

When they returned on Sunday, they found the house ransacked and the missing from an almirah.

Inspection revealed that burglars had gained entry after breaking open the rear door.

A case has been registered.

In another case of burglary, suspects broke into a house in J.J. Nagar and decamped with gold jewellery and cash.

The resident Yasim Basha, who runs a tea shop in the area, had gone to a family function at a relative’s home nearby.

He and his family members returned on Monday morning to find the front door broken open and the valuables missing.

Basha is yet to ascertain to the police the loss of property suffered, sources added.
