“Varanasi is a city that never dies, avid traveller and photographer M. Madan Gopal, Additional Chief Secretary, Forest, Environment and Ecology Department, told visitors during his photography exhibition on ‘Life in Varanasi – from sunrise to sunset’ at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath on Thursday.
The photographs illustrate the scenario during the four seasons and the routine lives of the common man. “The city is an embodiment of diverse religions, culture and art forms,” he explained.
The four-day exhibition was inaugurated by Ramesh Kumar Sahani, a boatman from Varanasi, who guided Mr Gopal as he travelled around the city. Fascinated by the serenity of the photos, Mr Sahani said, “The photographs are not just a representation of Varanasi, but true glimpses of reality.”
Reiterating his love for travel, Mr. Gopal, who has visited 31 countries, said, “My passion to tour the great Himalayas brought me in touch with photography.”
