Girl run over by BMTC bus

A 15-year-old girl was run over by a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus after it hit the two-wheeler she was riding on Mysuru Road on Sunday.

According to the police, the victim, Savitha, was riding without helmet along with her brother at the time of the accident, which took place between Nayandahalli and Bangalore University. Her brother, who sustained injuries, was discharged after treatment in a hospital.

The police said Savitha, a resident of T. Narsipur, was visiting her relatives here and was heading to a wedding when the bus hit the two-wheeler.

On impact, she fell on the road and the bus ran over her, killing her on the spot.

The bus driver was arrested and a case filed at Byatarayanapura police station.



Fatal Accidents

On February 16 this year, 22-year-old biker Madhu Kumar lost his life when a BMTC driver jumped over the median and rammed into his vehicle while trying to overtake another bus. The pillion rider had a miraculous escape with minor injuries. The driver of the bus, Nagaraju, was arrested and the bus seized.

There were 50 fatalities in the 252 accidents involving BMTC buses between March and December 2015.
