A 12-year-old girl, who was lured allegedly by her neighbour, raised an alarm drawing the attention of passers-by after sensing danger in Talghattapura here on Saturday. She was rescued.

The victim, a resident of Avalahalli, was lured by her neighbour, a 28-year-old labourer, saying that her father had called for her and that he would take her to him on his motorbike. The unsuspecting victim got onto the labourer’s motorbike, but when the accused drove her in the other direction, she realised that something was amiss. When she questioned him about this, the accused told her that he had some “personal work” with her and offered her Rs. 50.

The girl then raised an alarm and an autorickshaw driver passing by noticed this and intercepted the labourer’s bike. When the victim narrated the incident to him, the labourer did not have any convincing reply. Passers-by, who had by then gathered at the scene, beat up the man before handing him over to the police.

The police, who booked a case of kidnapping against the labourer, produced him in court which remanded him in judicial custody. Preliminary enquiry revealed that he was married a few years ago, but his wife had deserted him.
