The city police have arrested three men who used to prey on pedestrians on lonely stretches of the Outer Ring Road. Early on Thursday morning, the men picked up a pedestrian, Nagaraj, near K.R. Puram on the promise of dropping him in Ramanagaram. However, they threatened him with a knife and air gun and forced him into their car.
As they were driving through Bidadi, Nagaraj spotted a police car and screamed for help. The police gave the chase for a few kilometres, called for backup, and obstructed the path of the vehicle. They were able to rescue Nagaraj and arrest the gang members.
According to the police, the gang would waylay people walking alone with knives and air guns, which they would say were real revolvers. The accused are Salim Pasha, Abdul Suleiman and Rajesh Rai. All three had been arrested recently for similar crimes in Siddapura and Jayanagar. They resumed their criminal activities when they came out on bail, the police said. They are said to have admitted to robbing a commuter on Hebbal flyover three days ago.
