Bengaluru police arrested six out of a gang of eight people including five people from Niger, two men from North-east and a woman from Bengaluru for putting up advertisements on Olx and Quickr.com to lure and dupe gullible people with the availability of expensive cars and mobile phones at throwaway prices.

The gang uploaded pictures of brand new cars on Olx and Quickr.com with the offer to sell Honda City car at Rs. two or three lakh only. Falling for the trap, when people contacted somebody from the gang, the gang-member asked the customer to contact his secretary as he would pose as a businessman going abroad for urgent work.

The Bengaluru-based woman, then, used her proficiency in eight languages to lure the customer and ask them to pick up the car from Bengaluru International Airport after making an advance payment in a particular bank account. After receiving the money, she would go under-ground and not receive the customer’s calls and keep the phone switched off.

The gang was busted based on a complaint filed by one of the victims in Chickpet police station. The police tracked down the gang at a rented house in Bagalagunte on Sunday. Two of the five Nigerians are absconding. Police are on the look-out.

The arrested not only confessed to have duped people in over 16 such cases, but also revealed killing a Nigerian under Hennur police station limits a year ago.
