Foreigners will be protected: George

Minister for Home K.J. George on Thursday informed K. Sudhakar (Congress) in the Legislative Assembly that foreigners residing in any part of the State — including Hennur and Banaswadi in Hennur police limits of the city — would be given full protection.

Responding to the member, Mr. George said that periodic meetings would be held by officials to receive grievances from foreigners and suitable legal measures would be taken to prevent recurrence of incidents such as the attack on Wandoh Timothy, a citizen of Chad, on July 9.

The Minister said two of the suspects — Prabhu and Narasimha — had been arrested and booked in connection with the attack.

The vehicle involved in the incident had also been seized, he said.

To the member’s charge quoting Mr. Timothy’s complaint that some 75 Africans had been defrauded of sums ranging from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh, the Minister said it had not come to the notice of the police.

However, he assured that action would be initiated if there was any complaint.
