Officials were left red in the face after fire fighting equipment was stolen from the premises of the Karnataka Information Commission in MS Building, near the high security Vidhana Soudha.

The incident came to light when the staff reported for work on Friday.

“The theft occurred on Thursday. We have taken up a case based on a complaint by Ms. Honnamba S., Secretary, which was filed on Friday,” said the Vidhana Soudha police.

In her complaint, the IAS officer said that the office premises was fitted with fire fighting equipment, including four hoses and hose couplers. The accused turned off the water connection before taking the equipment, she told the police.

“CCTVs are installed in the area, and there is round-the-clock security,” said a senior police officer. “This is a major embarrassment and breach of security,” he added.

The police have sought CCTV footage of the area to see if they can identify the thief and are questioning security personnel deputed on duty.

The police suspect the role of an insider or someone who had easy access to the building.
