High drama prevailed at the civil court in Anekal when six members of a family tried to end their lives by setting themselves ablaze in two cars on Friday following an adverse verdict in a civil suit.

The police not only rescued the family members, but also slapped a case on them. The family is from Kudulu village under Electronics City police station limits, said the police.

According to the police, the dispute is over 1 acre and 28 guntas in Kudulu in Sarjapura Hobli between a joint family, a man named Munikrishna Reddy and others. The civil court ruled in favour of Mr. Reddy and others, which the family took badly.

Six members of the family — Pradeep, Pramod, Chikkamunireddy, Manjunath, Nagaratnamma, and Nagamma — reached the court in two cars around 11 a.m. They had brought cans of kerosene, said the police.

No sooner did they get into their cars, they rolled up the windows and locked themselves in. Police broke open the glasses and pulled them outside.

They later took them into custody and slapped a case of attempt of suicide, a senior police officer said.

The family was later let off on bail. They alleged that Mr. Reddy and others had grabbed their land.
