Elderly couple found murdered at Coles Road residence

The victims:Parvathraj and Chandrakala.

An elderly couple was murdered and their decomposed bodies found at their residence on Coles Road, Pulakeshinagar, on Sunday evening.

The deceased have been identified as Parvathraj (61) and Chandrakala (55).

The couple was living in a three-storeyed building, said a senior police officer. The incident occurred on the top floor where they were residing.

The couple had been living on the premises for several years and had no animosity with anyone. Parvathraj was running a paper-scrap business, said a police officer.

The police said that the neighbours last saw the couple at 8.30 a.m. on Friday and suspect that the double murder may have occurred on Friday noon.

Their son, who is a software engineer in the U.S., was scheduled to visit them on May 8.

The couple had rented out the ground floor to a family, while the first floor was given to a coaching institute.

Initial investigations suggested that it was a killing for vengeance.

However, the police said that it doesn’t appear to be a murder for gain. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) N. Sathish said the police are yet to ascertain the motive.

Stab wounds

While Parvathraj’s body bore repeated stab wounds, Chandrakala was stabbed once, Mr. Sathish said. There were no signs of forced entry into the house. However, when the police visited the crime scene, the door was found locked from outside, said a senior police officer.

The double murder came to light on Sunday evening after a domestic help, who had come to clean the coaching institute on the first floor, sensed foul smell emanating from the top floor and alerted the police.

The police reached the spot along with a dog squad and finger print experts and cordoned off the area.

The police are are verifying whether any valuables are missing from the house.

The Pulakeshinagar police have registered a case and ordered a probe into the incident.
