Two beat policemen attached to Halasuru station were beaten up by four inebriated students from a city college, on M.G. Road early on Sunday.

The students were arrested for abusing and assaulting the two policemen on duty in front of 1 MG Mall. The accused, all in their early 20s, are Somesh P.S., Shushant, Tanish Adarat, and Nadeem. According to the police, the accused were returning from a party and got dropped by a cab near Trinity junction. They then started shouting and howling at passers-by.

A Hoysala patrol vehicle approached them and constables Nagaraj M.K. and Madhu H.S. instructed them not to create nuisance and leave the place. The students argued with the police and abused them. One of them twisted Mr. Nagaraj’s arm, while the others beat up Mr. Madhu, the police said.

The constables called for help and a team of policemen arrived and bundled the four to the station. They were booked under Indian Penal Code sections 332 and 353.

Though the sections are non-bailable, they were released on bail to write their examinations, said a senior police officer.
