Driver arrested for molesting female passenger

A driver working with a popular cab aggregator under an assumed identity was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a female passenger near Begur on April 28.

The accused, Imran Khan, a native of Madhya Pradesh, was working for the aggregator under the name of the driver who used to drive the car. According to the police, this was done in cahoots with the vehicle’s owner, Naveen Rajput.

Initially, Rajput had employed Ravikumar, who was first named as the accused in the case. However, when Ravikumar quit in February 2017, Rajput hired Imran without informing the cab aggregator. The police claim that Khan does not even have a valid licence. Their ruse unravelled after the police picked up Ravikumar based on the company’s details, only to discover that he was not the perpetrator.

“We believe that when the two accused realised that the passenger had filed a complaint with us, they broke into the aggregator Ola’s office and tampered with Ravikumar’s documents to derail our investigation,” said Additional Commissioner of Police Hemanth Nimbalkar.

While Khan has been charged with molestation and also booked for forgery and impersonation, Rajput has been arrested for abetting the impersonation.

“The involvement of Ola authorities is also being examined and investigated,” Mr. Nimbalkar said. Ola was not available for comment.
