The Subramanyapura police are searching for a 25-year-old domestic help who allegedly drugged her employer and family members, before escaping with gold valuables and cash worth over Rs. 20 lakh, in Subramanyapura on Thursday.

The accused, Janani, was sacked from the job after she was reportedly caught stealing cash from civil contractor Kanthi’s house in Gayatri Nagar.

A few days ago, she joined work again after apologising to her employer for the deed and promising to return the money.

She reportedly served coffee laced with sedatives to the family members on Thursday morning.

After having coffee, the family members including Kanthi , his wife Jayalalitha, and father Padmaraju fell unconscious, while Kanthi’s son Rahul who had stepped out to meet a friend, fell on the road due to giddiness.

Jajani had even offered sedated coffee to the pet dog, before taking out the gold valuables and cash and escaping.

When Kanthi’s friend dropped by and found the front door ajar, he sensed something was amiss. He found the family lying unconscious inside and alerted the neighbours. They rushed the family to a nearby hospital where they recovered.

Meanwhile, the Subramanyapura police rushed to the spot and recovered CCTV footage from the house, which showed Janani stepping out of the house with a bag.

Jajani came to work as a full time domestic help at Kanthis house through a friend’s reference. Except her mobile number, the family did not have any other details of the accused.

The police are trying to track down Jajani through her call records.

Pratap Reddy, Additional Commissioner (West Division) advised the public to get a background verification done by the police, before employing domestic help.
