October 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - Bengaluru:

Contradicting Health Minister U.T. Khader, who said on Wednesday that doctors cannot be blamed for the death of one-and-a-half-year-old Gagana, V.S. Ugrappa, MLC, said lack of coordination among doctors of hospitals and inadequate ventilators at NIMHANS were responsible for her death. Gagana died on Monday after she fell from the second floor balcony of her house in Bengaluru. Mr. Ugrappa told presspersons that doctors have impinged upon the fundamental right to life and liberty enshrined under Article 21 of the Constitution by denying treatment. The MLC, who visited NIMHANS and held discussions with its director, said denial of treatment by NIMHANS doctors owing to shortage of ventilators led to the child’s death.
