The State government on Thursday told the High Court of Karnataka that so far Rs. 8.24 lakh had been disbursed to 20-year-old Leesha, who has undergone seven surgeries on her left leg after suffering injuries in a bomb blast on April 17, 2013 near the BJP’s State headquarters at Malleswaram here.
A statement was made on behalf of the State in response to a petition filed by Leesha, who had claimed that she was given only Rs. 3 lakh as compensation while pointing out that her father had spent more than Rs. 10 lakh for her treatment and for sending her to college in taxi by borrowing money.
She had sought Rs. 1 crore as compensation and Rs. 10 lakh as interim relief.
Plea to Centre
The compensation amount was released from various sources, including the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, the government said while pointing out that it has recommended the Union government to release Rs. 3 lakh for her.
Fiat to counsel
Following this, Justice A.S. Bopanna asked counsel for the Union government to inform the action taken on the matter while adjourning further hearing.
