A 47-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by stabbing himself over a family row in Bhooopsandra in Sanjaya Nagar on Saturday. The deceased, Benjamin, was living with his wife Leela and two children.

According to the police, Benjamin, who was working in a private firm, was an alcoholic. He would fight with his wife over trivial issues regularly. On Saturday, Benjamin after a fight stabbed himself with a knife in an inebriated state. He was rushed to a near-by hospital, where he succumbed.

The Sanjay Nagar police have taken up a case of unnatural death and are investigating.

Woman ends life

In another incident, a 32-year-old woman allegedly killed herself by consuming pesticide at her house in Basaveshwara Nagar police station limits on Saturday.

The deceased, Manjula, was living with her husband Suresh, an autorickshaw driver, and two children in a rented house in Kamala Nagar. Manjula had gone to her native K.R. Pete with the children for summer vacation.

She had come back home on Saturday and prepared dinner. Suresh returned home and again went out to buy snacks. He came back to find Manjula lying on the floor and frothing at the mouth. Suresh found a bottle of pesticide next to her.

He, with the help of neighbours, rushed her to a private hospital where Manjula succumbed.

The Basaveshwara Nagar police rushed to the spot and shifted the body for post-mortem and are investigating further to ascertain the cause of the alleged suicide.

Gang makes futile attempt to rob ATM

A group of men made a futile attempt to brake open a ATM machine to take away cash in Shidlaghatta in Chikkaballapura town in the early hours of Sunday.

After failing to break it open, the gang left with the CCTV cameras installed in the kiosk. However, they left the DVR behind.

The police verified the footage to find a gang venturing into the Axix bank ATM and trying hard to brake open the machine before going away with the CCTV camera.

The police have obtained some clues and efforts are on to track the accused, a senior police officer said.
