The Cubbon Park police arrested a 22-year-old student who allegedly breached a high security zone and jumped a gate to meet his favourite cricketer during an IPL match at Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday night.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in that match.
The accused, Arun Kumar, was arrested for criminal trespass and released on bail, said a senior police officer. Arun reportedly told the police that he is a huge fan of Suresh Raina, who plays for CSK, and wanted to meet him somehow.
On Sunday during the match, he entered the stadium and reached the corporate gate, which is a thoroughfare for the cricketers. According to witnesses, when Suresh Raina was passing by, Arun jumped over the gate and fell at the cricketer’s feet.
“There was some panic as Raina was taken aback. Security personnel rushed to the spot. They took Arun into a room for questioning,” said a police officer.
After being questioned, he was handed over to the Cubbon Park police. “Though it was a trivial issue related to a cricket fan, it raised concern about the security plan at the stadium,” the police officer added.
