The former Chief Vigilance Commissioner N. Vittal on Friday said the reason for corruption flourishing in the country is the “maximum” power and influence wielded by politicians.

Delivering the annual Vigilance Awareness Talk 2011, ‘Perils of Corruption in the Present-Day Scenario' organised by HAL at its Ghatge Convention Centre here, Mr. Vittal said the issue of corruption, if not addressed in time, could lead to erosion of credibility of public establishments.

“A poor perception of integrity level in the country does not encourage a potential investor,” he said, and pushed for the concept of institutional integrity, which ensures that right persons occupy key posts.

The talk was attended largely by senior HAL executives besides chief vigilance officers (CVOs) of other PSUs and banks.
