The city police on Saturday shot at a 21-year-old habitual offender who was trying to flee after attacking two policemen during a crime investigation in Annasandrapalya on Saturday.

The accused Johnson, a resident of Vibhutipura, had been arrested on Friday night on the charge of stabbing an office assistant on June 10.

On June 10, Sri Sai Charan and a friend were going home from work when they saw Johnson fleeing after robbing a woman’s gold chain. Mr. Charan tried to catch him but Johnson stabbed him and escaped. The constable was rushed to hospital where doctors declared him as brought dead.

Based on the complaint, the HAL police arrested Johnson on Friday night. They took him to Kaggadasapura, where the murder had happened, for spot inspection.

On a pretext of attending to nature’s call, Johnson attacked the two policemen escorting him and tried to flee. Inspector Sadiq Pasha warned Johnson to surrender and later fired at his leg to stop him from fleeing. Johnson was taken to hospital for treatment. In the last six months, this is the third time Johnson was arrested by the police. He was earlier involved in robbery and dacoity cases.
