Contamination makes children sick

May 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Bengaluru:

On Friday, four children from Narasimhaiah Layout, near MCT Slum, in Byatarayanapura on Mysuru Road took ill after they consumed Cauvery water.

The children, Tilak Kumar, Sandeep, Sudeep and Ranjita, who were hospitalised on Friday night after they complained of vomiting and diarrhoea, are recovering now.

BWSSB’s jurisdictional Assistant Executive Engineer B. Suresh said the residents in and around the slum had drawn illegal connections from the main distribution line. “The residents have drawn connections from our ductile iron distribution line and illegally routed it through drains using PVC and galvanised iron pipelines. In this particular case, the drain water has entered the PVC water pipeline through a worn-out collar joint,” the official explained, and added that the illegal line was disconnected soon after.
