Congress on Saturday asked the Karnataka government to order a CBI probe into the alleged Rs 15,000 crore scam in civic works undertaken by Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in the last three years.
Talking to reporters here, KPCC President G Parameshwara commended the action taken by BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah for unearthing financial irregularities in three assembly constituencies to the tune of Rs 1,539 crore.
He said Mr. Siddaiah had filed a criminal complaint with the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force, the jurisdictional police, asking it to probe the irregularities on the basis of findings by the BBMP’s Technical Vigilance Committee.
He said the government should order for a CBI inquiry into the civic works undertaken by BBMP in all the 198 wards from 2008 to 2012.
Mr. Parameshwara said if the government transferred Mr. Siddaiah bowing to pressures from BJP MLAs, Congress would protest it.
He criticised the BJP government for transferring Lokayukta ADGP Jeevan Kumar B Goankar to bail out former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa against whom Lokayukta police has been probing corruption cases.
Mr. Goankar’s transfer should be cancelled and he be posted back to Lokayukta, he demanded.
Mr. Parameshwara flayed the transfer of H N Satyanarayana Rao as ADGP Lokayukta against whom the High Court has ordered for action for failure to check illegal mining during his posting in Bellary.
