Irate public beat up a 22-year-old Congo national who drove his car rashly in an inebriated state and knocked down two motorcycle riders in Kalyan Nagar on Wednesday.

The accused, Bob Kotanga, a student of CMR College, was returning home in a car with his friends after attending a party. He knocked down motorcycle rider Asif (32) and pillion rider Misba Pasha (22) who were returning home from work. The duo sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital. Sensing trouble Kotanga tried to escape, but irate passers-by chased and caught him and thrashed him badly before handing him over to the police.

The Banasawadi police have taken up a case against Kotanga while Kotanga has also filed a complaint accusing the mob of beating him up, a senior police officer said.
