A computer operator has been suspended by Bangalore University (BU) for issuing a marks card to a student who hadn’t even appeared for the examination.

Talking to reporters after a Syndicate meeting on Wednesday, Vice Chancellor B. Thimme Gowda said an inquiry had been initiated against G. Subramanyam for issuing a fifth semester B.Com marks card to a student of Bishop Cotton Academy of Professional Management in October 2014.

No police plaint yet

“A committee has been formed for the inquiry. Based on the report, we will file a police complaint against the student,” he said.

In the past, the University has faced flak for not acting on allegations of fake and forged degrees.

Facelift for BU

The long-overdue facelift for the campus may gather speed with the VC directing the university engineer to finish works that had started in 2006.

These include construction of visual arts, academics centre, dance and drama building among others at Jnana Bharathi campus, as well as projects in the postgraduate centre at Kolar and the Central College premises.

Six months

The university had spent Rs. 15 crore on these projects. “We will have to spend another Rs. 20 crore to complete the works. We will take action against engineers and contractors if the work is not completed within six months,” said Mr. Gowda.
