The State government has provided relief of Rs. 4 lakh to the family of a farmer and his spouse who committed suicide in Malur taluk.

Venkatesh (30) and his wife Padmavathi consumed rice mixed with poison on August 20.

K.S. Manjunath, Malur MLA, handed over the cheque to kin of the deceased at Obatti village in Malur taluk on Monday.

Narayanamma, mother of the deceased Venkatesh, received the cheque.

Mr. Manjunath said the authorities were given strict instructions to contain the menace of private financiers who charged hefty interest on loans taken by farmers.
