After receiving a petition on the alleged irregularities at Bowring Institute, the Committee on Petition of the Legislative Assembly went to inspect the institute here on Thursday.
The petition filed by former councillor Padmanabha Reddy alleged that there were many irregularities in the institute, said N.H. Shivashankar Reddy, Deputy Speaker and chairperson of the committee.
He told The Hindu that over eight acres had been leased to the institute by the City Corporation for a period of 99 years. “Mr. Reddy had alleged that apart from the violation of the lease conditions, the institute had not taken BBMP permission for new constructions and had illegally sub-leased part of the land to a petrol bunk.”
Mr. Reddy said that the committee, during the inspection, found that there were some violations. “We had instructed the officials concerned, including Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru (Urban), to furnish some details. However, the officials have sought more time for the same. The committee will deliberate on the issue again after all the details are submitted by officials and then take a decision on action to be initiated against the institute,” he said.
He added that with the Legislature session due to begin from June 29 at Belagavi, the committee will be able to meet again only after the session ends on July 10.
