Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has directed Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner to hand over the investigation into alleged irregularities in the Traffic Engineering Cell (TEC) to the Anti Corruption Bureau.
It is alleged that around ₹53 crore was misappropriated in the TEC between 2017-18 and 2018-19 during the execution of projects worth ₹109 crore. Former councillor N.R. Ramesh had alleged that corrupt officials were hand-in-hand with contractors.
In March this year, the BBMP Commissioner had directed the Technical Vigilance Cell under Commissioner (TVCC) to look into the allegation. The TVCC submitted a 179-page report on the alleged scam recently.
Mr. Yediyurappa has cited the TVCC report and directed Commissioner B.H. Anil Kumar to hand over the investigation to the ACB after filing a complaint.
This direction from the Chief Minister, who also holds charge of the city, is the latest in a long list of probes ordered by him. The other probes include alleged corruption in Indira Canteens, solid waste management, white topping and TenderSURE projects, setting up underground dustbins, purchase of compactors, mechanical sweepers and liners for quarry landfills.
