Launching a counter-attack on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for his remarks that the BJP lacks respect for the Constitution, Union Chemical and Fertilizers Minister Ananth Kumar on Thursday said Mr. Siddaramaiah had forgotten the country’s history which was marked by the dark days of Emergency imposed by the then Congress dispensation.

“It is the Congress which showed disrespect to the Constitution by imposing Emergency from 1975 to 1977 during which the fundamental right of freedom of expression had been taken away. Several top leaders of the country including Jayaprakash Narayan, A. B. Vajpayee and L. K. Advani had been jailed during the Emergency. But our Chief Minister has forgotten all those things,” Mr. Kumar remarked while participating in the Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations organised by the party here.

“Mr. Siddaramaiah may have forgotten this as he has switched over from the Janata Dal (S) to the Congress. He is neither here nor there as his political colours have started showing up,” Mr. Ananth Kumar remarked.
