If you are a resident of Jayanagar 3rd Block, you may have seen customers milling about at this eatery tucked away on a corner of 8 Main. Hari’s Super Sandwich, a popular hangout in the area, proves that size doesn’t matter — it attracts hundreds of customers through the day.
The eatery focuses exclusively on sandwiches and boondi chats, and also offers soft drinks to cool your burning tongue. Their regular sandwiches, such as the capsicum, tomato and cheese ones, and specials such as the cheese corn dahi toast, all cost between Rs. 15 and Rs. 40.
“Most of our customers buy chilli cheese toast, American sweet corn sandwiches and chocolate sandwiches,” says owner Hari, as he prepares dahi toast and chops it up into little squares for a customer.
Faithful buyers
Pavithra P., a postgraduate student at Jain College, says, “I’ve been coming here for the past three years and I regularly buy the cheese toast and dahi toast here. I got to know of the place through my friend who used to visit their old shop near Madhavan Park. Even though I don’t study nearby, I still come here every month. My friend too makes it a point to come here every time he is in the area.”
The sandwich joint, started by Hari (also known as Anil Kumar) and his brother Hari, started the eatery in 2000 after they came to the city but shifted base to Jayanagar 3 Block only after 2008. Narasimharaju, who runs the eatery along with the Hari brothers, says that students from nearby colleges frequently come to eat in their shop.
About six months ago, Hari’s Super Sandwich opened another outlet near NMKRV College. It may soon become the sandwich shop’s only address, says the owner.
