May 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - Bengaluru:

The controversy around the smuggling of red sanders and gunning down of alleged red sanders smugglers in Andhra Pradesh has not deterred Chinese nationals seeking the precious wood. On Friday, the Bengaluru district police arrested a 22-year-old Chinese national and her boyfriend on the charge of buying the banned red sanders from their local contact on the outskirts of the city. The accused have been identified as Loung Xiang Zhou Deng Chang, a second year engineering student in a city college, and her boyfriend Zhang Guaxiu Lin Wei (22), a student in Changchun city in Liaoning province in China. The duo, along with their tourist guide, identified as Saleem Pasha, and driver Shivakumar, were nabbed.
