Cash custodian who was on the run with ₹99 lakh caught

Worked with an ATM cash replenishment firm

The Adugodi police on Wednesday arrested a 28-year-old man, who was on the run after stealing ₹99 lakh from an ATM cash replenishment firm, and his friend who helped stash the money.

The prime accused, Kishore Kumar, was a cash custodian with the firm. He allegedly withdrew cash from various ATMs on May 1. He hid the cash with his friend Rakesh Samuel.

“The management got suspicious after Kishore went on unauthorised leave. When they conducted an audit, they were unable to account for ₹99.13 lakh,” said the police. Based on a complaint, the police tracked down Kishore and recovered ₹95 lakh from him.

According to police, Rakesh had a debt of ₹30 lakh. “He discussed his problems with Kishore. They allegedly planned to loot a few ATMs under the pretext of repairing the machines,” said the police.

On May 1, they went to an ATM on Langford Road in Shanthinagar, and took a little over ₹47 lakh. They took the remaining cash from an ATM on Residency Road.

A case was registered in Adugodi police station. The police managed to trace the duo.
