The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), in collaboration with The Ugly Indian (TUI), an anonymous group of citizens who clean roads, is organising ‘Deepavali Rangoli Habba’, a campaign to ensure visual cleanliness across the city. The campaign will be held in all 198 wards on Tuesday morning, when the city’s roads are likely to be littered with the remnants of firecrackers.
The BBMP has urged residents to take up volunteer work in their wards. Residents, along with pourakarmikas, can draw colourful rangolis to celebrate their efforts.
The drive will be organised in an allotted place in each ward. BBMP Commissioner B.H. Anil Kumar tweeted about the campaign and acknowledged the support of a few companies that have come forward to sponsor rangoli powder.
Recently, the BBMP and TUI launched the ‘Adopt-a-Street’ initiative, under which 10 prominent roads were adopted by India Rising Trust for ensuring visual cleanliness. Earlier, the BBMP and TUI had cleared black spots in many parts of the city and encouraged pourakarmikas to decorate them with rangolis. This was also followed by the ‘Sankranti Rangoli Habba’ in which many volunteers besides pourakarmikas participated.
