The State Cabinet on Thursday, finally, approved three metro rail projects and a feasibility report by RITES on the suburban railway project. For the convenience of the public, it was decided to modify the metro line to Kempegowda International Airport.
Through Hebbal
The revised metro line would pass through Nagawara, Hebbal and Jakkur. The revised plan increases the length of the line from 29 km to 38 km. The cost increases from ₹5,950 crore to ₹10,584 crore.
The earlier plan did not include Hebbal.
A Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, has decided to construct a metro line from Silk Board Junction to K.R. Puram at an estimated cost of ₹5,994 crore. The cost was escalated by ₹1,792 crore owing to an increase in land cost, requirement of a large tract of land and price escalation.
Briefing mediapersons, Minister for Cooperation Bandeppa Kashempur said a decision was taken to construct a metro station at Challaghatta after Kengeri on Mysuru Road (₹140 crore).
Four corridors
The Cabinet approved four suburban railway corridors at an estimated cost of ₹23,093 crore. The first route — Kengeri - Cantonment - Baiyappanahalli - K.R. Puram - Whitefield (35.47 km) — comprises 11 stations, including six underground.
The second suburban rail corridor is KSR Bengaluru - Yeshwantpur - Lottegollahalli - Koodigehalli - Yelahanka - Rajanakunte (24.88 km).
The third is Nelamangala - Chikkabanavara - Yeshwantpur/Mathikere - Hebbal - Banaswadi - Baiyappanahalli (38.94 km).
The fourth corridor is Hillagere via Baiyappanahalli - Yelahanka - Devanahalli (63.36 km).
Mr. Kashempur said, “The investment in corridors would be in the ratio of 20% by the central government, 20% by the State government and remaining would be borrowed either from multilateral or domestic financial institutions.”
