A day after Bosch announced indefinite closure of its Adugodi and Koramangala units to facilitate inspection by Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) officials, the company said it would resume operations from Monday.

The company, in a statement on Sunday, said the public notification issued by the KSPCB on Friday was not applicable to its units. The KSPCB notice had directed closure of all industrial units letting effluents, treated or untreated, into any waterbody within the catchment area of Bellandur lake. Subsequently, the auto component major on Saturday announced temporary closure of its Adugodi and Koramangala unit.

The KSPCB notice, which stated that no industrial unit would be permitted to operate without a joint inspection team finding effluent discharge to be within permissible limits, was issued based on a recent order of the National Green Tribunal directing the shutdown of all industries in the Bellandur lake catchment area till an inspection was carried out.

Representatives of the company also met KSPCB authorities on Saturday to submit a representation on how sewage was treated at their facilities. “Having received clarification from the KSPCB that the provisions dated in the public notification of 5 May 2017 are not applicable to the group, Bosch will commence operations in Adugodi and Koramangala,” said Soumitra Bhattacharya, president of Bosch Group India, in a statement.

The company termed the earlier decision to halt operations as a precautionary measure, saying it has been implementing and practising social and environment-friendly practices discussed with government stakeholders.

KSPCB officials could not be reached for comment on the matter.
