A 57-year-old construction labourer was killed on-the-spot when a BMTC bus knocked him down on Magadi Main Road on Saturday.

The police said that the deceased has been identified as Krishnappa, a resident of Agrahara Dasarahalli.

Around 10 a.m., he was walking on Magadi Main Road, when a speeding BMTC bus knocked him down and fled the spot. Passers-by shifted Krishnappa to Jain Hospital in Vasanth Nagar where he succumbed to injuries later.

There is no clue about the bus route number or the registration number of the bus as the people around failed to notice it. The records of the buses plying on the route are being scrutinised and the driver of the bus will be arrested at the earliest, added the police.

A case has been registered in Vijayanagar Traffic police station.
