Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) will soon commence the construction of a skywalk between the Byappanahalli Metro Terminal and the passenger integration area on the other side of the railway track. A press release here on Monday said the Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Region, Bangalore, has accorded permission for the construction.
There has been a clamour for the skywalk between the terminal and the integration centre on NGEF side ever since metro commenced operations last October.
Work to go on
Meanwhile, BMRCL has decided to go ahead with the underground construction work off Platform Road (opposite Hotel Swathi) till the General Manager of South Western Railway responds to a communication from the Chief Secretary.
Responding to the demand of the South Western Railway to pay balance licence fee of Rs. 125.702 crore, the Chief Secretary wrote to the General Manager saying a resolution to the licence fee issue might take some more time as the matter was pending with the Union Cabinet Secretary. Till then, he suggested that BMRCL may be allowed to continue with the underground construction and so BMRCL will continue with the work till it receives a formal response.
