BJP tries wooing Independents

August 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 06:04 pm IST - Bengaluru:

Close on the heels of the Congress and the Janata Dal (S) making efforts to join hands on Friday to turn the tables on it in the BBMP, the BJP too plunged into the scene with a counter strategy.

The BJP leaders managed to woo an Independent councillor to their fold, while the party is said to have almost convinced another three such Independents to be on its side. The party is confident that it can win the poll to the post of Mayor with the support of these many Independents along with two Independent members in the Rajya Sabha.

Even as some leaders from the BJP were busy holding parleys with the Independents, another group was trying to convince the JD (S) with the help of an independent MLC Mallikarjun to shun its plans to form an alliance with the Congress. With the party leaders being confident of getting the support of enough number of Independents, the BJP leadership is learnt to have decided to wait and watch for further moves by the Congress and the JD (S) before deciding upon its future course of action.
