The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to launch a public movement to force the government to withdraw the formation of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and to strengthen the Lokayukta by amending the relevant Act.

A special executive of the party, which met here on Friday, discussed various issues, including the alleged failure of the government in handling drought and power supply situation in the State, formation of the ACB, “weakening of the Lokayukta”, the government’s stand on not tabling the “complete report of Anwar Manippady committee on wakf properties” in the Legislative Council despite the Chairperson’s ruling, and repeated leakage of the chemistry question papers of II Pre-University examination.

Briefing the media on the decisions taken at the executive and the resolutions adopted, party general secretary C.T. Ravi said the government wanted to closedown the Lokayukta institution to protect corrupt officials and Ministers. “The BJP will launch a signature collection campaign against the intention of the government, from April 6,” he said.

The executive meeting also demanded handing over the issue related to “wakf scam” to a Legislature House committee for conducting a probe and initiating action against those involved in “grabbing public property”. Seeking action against those responsible for the repeated leakage of PUC question papers and the murder of a BJP activist, Raju, in Mysuru recently, the executive also announced its decision to launch a campaign to demand the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
