The BJP on Monday demanded that MLCs, who have not chosen Bengaluru city as their nodal constituencies, should not be considered as voters for the mayoral elections in the BBMP even if their names are there in the city’s voters’ list.
BJP legislators S. Suresh Kumar and Ashwathnarayana pointed out that several MLCs residing in Bengaluru have chosen other district centres as their nodal constituencies for taking up projects with funds allotted under the legislators’ local area development scheme.
The BJP leaders alleged that the Congress government is trying to misuse official machinery to include names of these MLCs in the electoral college for the mayoral polls to swell its strength. They also took exception to the delay in announcement of the mayoral polls as well as release of the list of voters for the same.
The move of the Congress to forge an alliance with the JD (S) is an effort to make a back door entry after failing to get the people’s mandate.S. Suresh Kumar,
