Two bike-borne men assaulted a former BJP councillor in V.V. Puram on Monday morning. The victim, Vedavyasa Bhat, sustained minor injuries and was admitted to Victoria Hospital. He later filed a complaint with the police.

Mr. Bhat, 51, owns a newspaper distribution agency. He was sorting bundles of newspapers when the attackers approached him on two bikes. The men got down, strode up to him and punched his face, he told the police. They accused him of being involved in the Assembly elections. Mr. Bhat, who was bleeding from his nose, cried for help, following which passers-by stopped to investigate.

The V.V. Puram police have taken up a case of assault and criminal intimidation. They are trying to identify the attackers based on CCTV footage from in and around the area.
