At the crack of dawn, on a day that seemed to heat up rapidly, thousands of runners paced through a sleepy city during the Bengaluru Marathon on Sunday.

The event was conducted in three categories: the 42.5 km full marathon that saw serious runners testing their endurance as they ran from Kanteerava stadium, towards Koramanagala stadium and back; the 21.1 km half marathon, and the 5 km hope run. The hope run attracted thousands of citizens to Cubbon Park where the event was conducted to raise awareness on paediatric cancer.

The organisers estimate that over 20,000 people participated in the three runs.

Rashpal Singh took the top honours in the men’s full marathon, while Jyothi Gawate took prime podium finish at the women’s full marathon.
