In a bizarre incident, a 35-year-old mechanic recorded a suicide note on his mobile phone and sent it to his friend before hanging himself at his residence in Ilyas Nagar on Sunday accusing private money-lenders of forcing him to take the extreme step.
In the video clip, the deceased, Syed Ahmed Pasha, narrated his ordeal and accused Ansar and Imtiyaz of harassment.
“I have taken a loan to set up a garage, but had to sell the garage and even my motorcycle to repay the loan. I have paid more than I have borrowed, but Ansar and Imtiyaz continued to harass me demanding more money. Due to the trouble and torture, I have decided to end my life,” he said in the video, which he had shot minutes before hanging himself. “Sir, I have an appeal to make, please help my family and do the needful,” he says, before taking the extreme step.
His family gave him a quite burial without informing the police fearing repercussions from the money-lenders. However, the suicide came to light when the friend to whom Pasha had forwarded the video, alerted the police.
The Kumaraswamy Layout police have taken up a case. They said that Pasha was eking out a living by driving an autorickshaw at night while his father took the vehicle during the day.
“Initially, the family maintained that he died a natural death. But with the help of the Assistant Commissioner, we exhumed the body and sent it for post-mortem,” Lokesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), said.
